GRANTS PASS (Jan. 19, 2021) — Rogue Community College has promoted Carmen Sumner from assistant marketing director to marketing director.

Sumner has been with RCC since 2011. She has been in the advertising and marketing industry for over 20 years. She was raised in Alaska and moved to the Rogue Valley in 2001. Prior to joining RCC, Sumner worked at an in-house advertising agency and managed a design team that was responsible for the marketing, advertising and promotional materials for over 100 stores. She also managed the in-house print shop. Sumner also has experience in television and newspaper advertising sales and graphic design.

Former Marketing Director Grant Walker left RCC to join Asante Health System after six years with the college.

“I am pleased that Carmen is stepping into this role. Her years of experience with RCC will provide continuity with our marketing plans, image and brand. Her years of experience in the field will be beneficial as RCC continues to grow and respond to our community,” said Kori Ebenhack, vice president of Student Services.

“Carmen brings a wide range of experience, knowledge of our community, and established relationships to her position as marketing director. We are fortunate to have her move up into this new role,” said RCC President Cathy Kemper-Pelle.

Sumner earned a B.A. in journalism and public communications with an emphasis in advertising from the University of Alaska in 1994. She is an active member of the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR).

Sumner has one brother in the Rogue Valley, a fire captain for Jackson County Fire District No. 3. She is married and has two dogs and a cat. She enjoys gardening, reading and staying active running.

Sumner said, “I love being part of RCC, and I am excited to continue to bring my knowledge of marketing and education together. RCC provides access to education and a chance for people to transform their lives. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue that message at a different level. I found my path at RCC and it’s a great place to use my skills to help people find theirs.”
