Dara Daniel is a Southern Oregon Artist currently based in Grants Pass. In the early ’80s, she moved from her hometown in rural Michigan to study art in Northern California, where she received a MA degree from Humboldt State University and a BA from Chico State University. Dara also attended the College of the Siskiyous and Monterey Peninsula College while she lived in California. After focusing on creating figurative sculptures with cement, wood, clay, and steel during college and the following 2 decades after, she left sculpting behind and began painting in pastel, then later with oils & acrylics.

For Dara, creating is about exploration and discovery. In 2019 she began to layer squares and rectangles of handmade papers on her canvases before applying paint. With this collage technique, she creates a textured, grid-like pattern that adds interest and depth. The layering of colorful paper inspired Dara to create non-objective paintings that are just about color, tones, shapes, curves, and texture. Her current work since moving to Oregon in 2022, focuses on blending her love of abstract colorful shapes and animals. You can find Dara’s work locally on display in Southern Oregon at: Gallery One in Grants Pass, Art Presence Center in Jacksonville, and the Guild Gallery in Kerby, OR.
