HYBRID: The Art of Storytelling Class

Time travel through stories! Discover your voice! Connect to the rich and ancient tradition of oral storytelling! Master storyteller Georgia Churchill holds the philosophy that a story is a portal that opens to worlds of both knowledge and delight. In this two part hybrid series, Georgia will teach the art of storytelling in the oral tradition. Through her instruction she will share with participants the ability to tell a 5 minute story lively, meaningful, and fun for the teller and the listener.
HYBRID CLASS: Join in on ZOOM or in-person at the Guild for SESSION 1 on June 26. We will focus on basic storytelling techniques such as loosening throat muscles, vocal tone, diaphragmatic breath, and expressing believable emotions. At home, you’ll apply these techniques to a 5 minute story of your own choosing, and come together in-person for SESSION 2 on July 10th @ the Guild to share their stories with classmates. Throughout all sessions, Georgia will pepper in examples from stories of her own repertoire, explaining the power of storytelling and the way that stories are windows into the time and place from which they emerge. For 43 years Georgia has been telling oral tradition tales from many cultures to people from ages 3 to 101. “Georgia Churchill is a virtuoso in the intimate art of storytelling.” All you need is your voice, curiosity, and the willingness to explore a wonderful new medium.
Class fees are on a sliding scale: $15 Students or Youth ages 7-18, $25-$40 Adults ages 18+ and $80 Family of 4 (2 Adults, 2 Youth)
