Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Will Move to Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2 on Coastal Districts

by | Oct 2, 2020 | Recreation, Safety

Medford, Ore. – Due to substantial rainfall along the coastal region, the RRSNF will be lowering the Industrial Fire Precaution Level to a Level 2 on the Gold Beach and Powers Ranger Districts. This change will be effective at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020. Siskiyou Mountains, Wild Rivers, and High Cascades Ranger Districts will remain at IFPL 3, as rainfall amounts were substantially less inland.

The IFPL II restrictions apply only to contractors and permit holders, including those with permits to cut firewood for personal use. These restrictions are not applicable to standard recreational uses, such as campfires, which have separate restrictions that apply. For current restrictions on campfires, visit the Forest webpage.

Under IFPL II:

  • The use of power saws will be prohibited between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., except at loading sites.
  • The use of cable yarders will be prohibited between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Blasting will be prohibited between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
  • Welding or cutting of metal will be prohibited between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Additionally, commercial operators on forestlands are required to have fire suppression equipment on site and provide watchman service.

Personal and commercial woodcutters are reminded of their responsibility to stay informed of current IFPLs and all restrictions that apply to activities conducted on public lands. Failure to comply with fire precautionary requirements may result in the issuance of a Violation Notice.

For current information on IFPL levels, fire danger, closures and restrictions, visit the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest website. Additionally, the public are encouraged to connect with the RRSNF via Facebook and Twitter for the most up-to-date information.
