Cave Junction, October 6, 2021— A 23-acre prescribed burn called “Pepper Buck” is planned for ignition the morning of October 7, 2021. This high elevation burn consisting of hand piles will be conducted by fire management personnel from the Wild Rivers Ranger District. Burn operations will be near the Oregon Caves National Monument and Road 48 (Grayback Road) at the summit near Page Mountain. Smoke will likely be visible from Illinois Valley and Williams.

“With the weather conditions being just right to meet burn parameters, we’re seizing the opportunity to complete hazardous fuels reduction work on the forest,” said Assistant Fire Staff Mike McCann.

The burn will be patrolled and monitored after firing operations are completed.
