More than $23,000 in Teacher Grants Awarded by Students

Grants Pass (October 2018) – The Student Enrichment Program otherwise known as “Teacher Grants” continues with strong community support for the 2018-19 school year. The Josephine County Youth Foundation awarded 23 grants that totaled over $23,000 to teachers in Josephine County and Western Jackson County. The Student Enrichment Program or “Teacher Grants” has been an annual program for the past 5 years and has granted over $90,000 during that time.

Teachers in Josephine County and Western Jackson County have the opportunity each year to apply for grants that allows them to step out of the traditional ways of learning and expand their student’s curriculum. This year’s grants were awarded for programs that cover athletics, STEM, technology, gardening, video production, internships, coding and more. The grants awarded this year will impact more than 4,000 students over the next 3 school years.

A total of 11 different schools captured the 23 grants given out by the Josephine County Youth Foundation. Schools winning grants this year include: Illinois Valley, Hidden Valley, Lincoln Savage, Rogue River, Redwood Elementary, Grants Pass, New Hope Christian, Evergreen, South Valley Academy, Fleming, and North Valley.

Students run the program and have made all funding decisions for the last five years. Student enhancement funding totaling $70,000 has been provided through 2017; averaging $1,000 for each program. Many current and past students attending a Josephine County school have been impacted. JCYF’s students are committed to this program and have grown this program each year and plan to continue this growth.

The Student Enrichment Banquet will be held this upcoming Wednesday, November 7th at Taprock Restaurant in Grants Pass, Oregon. The event will start at 6 p.m.
