Cave Junction, OR May 11, 2021, — The “Josephine” Fire, which was reported on Sunday, May 9, on the Wild Rivers Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, remains at 22 acres in size. The fire is located in a grass/brush/pine fuel type and is in a very inaccessible location on the backside of Woodcock Mountain near Josephine Creek just outside the old Biscuit Fire scar.
Yesterday, an assigned Type 1 helicopter assisted firefighters on the ground with numerous water bucket drops. Firefighters have lined the fire and are continuing with mop up.
Resources that remain on scene include the Rogue River Interagency Hotshots, Wild Rivers District Engine 622, a Galice Wildland Fire Module, and a 20-person hand crew from Grayback Forestry. The Type 1 helicopter is available today on an as-needed basis and resources will continue with mop up activities tomorrow. Containment is expected by the end of the week.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
