Siskiyou Field Institute: la tumultuosa geología del cañón del río Sacramento

May 30th, 6-9 PM (online intro) & June 1, 7:30 AM-5:30 PM (field day meeting in Weed, CA). $35 online only | $110 full class.

Rocks exposed in the Sacramento River Canyon record the last 415 million years of Earth’s history. They tell of a landscape shaped by converging tectonic plates that have not only added large tracts of land to western North America but also fueled the ongoing volcanism that has built the High Cascades. The course will explore both the origins of the canyon’s ancient rocks as well as modern geologic processes—such as landslides, flooding, and cavern formation—that continue to shape the region today.
